The Board of Rabbis of Northern California is the endorsing agency for Jewish Chaplaincy positions in the State institutions in Northern California
The agency endorsing mandate as well as eligibility requirements for Jewish chaplaincy positions are as follows:
ECCLESIASTICAL ENDORSING AGENCIES
The ecclesiastical endorsing agencies designated by the March 13, 1984 letter of the California State Department of Corrections to endorse
candidates for Jewish chaplaincy in state institutions in California are:

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates for Jewish chaplaincy shall in addition to meeting relevant state or federal requirements must:

Possess an endorsement from the Board of Rabbis of Northern California

Be able and willing to serve the religious needs of the target population even where the religious standards or values of the consumers different from those of the Chaplain.

While not being required to compromise his or her own religious standards and convictions, Jewish chaplains should avoid denigrating or rejecting differing religious views among his or her congregants.

They are charged to serve, not proselytize.

They are expected to enable all inmates, clients or patients who are accepted as Jews by the Jewish ecclesiastical endorsing agencies to be included in the religious, educational and social programs designated as Jewish.

They will, when necessary, call upon religious leaders of Jewish movements other than their own to provide ministry which they are unable to provide.
